Liquid Courage

Smooth, confident, and built for moments that matter

A refined Old Fashioned that takes the edge off without losing yourself

The Story Behind This Drink

I created Liquid Courage after watching too many first dates crash and burn at my bar. You know the type—two people who clearly like each other, but one (or both) is so nervous they can't get out of their own head.

The problem with most "courage" drinks? They're too strong. Three sips in and you're not relaxed, you're sloppy. That's not confidence—that's chaos.

Liquid Courage is different. It's built on a smooth bourbon base, softened with honey syrup instead of sugar, and brightened with orange bitters. Strong enough to feel it, smooth enough to sip slowly. The kind of drink that says "take a breath, you've got this."

I've sent this drink to hundreds of nervous daters, tough conversations, and "I need to tell you something" moments. It doesn't make you someone you're not—it just quiets the noise so the real you can show up.

The Recipe

Everything you need to find your own liquid courage

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon (something smooth, not too hot)
  • 1/2 oz honey syrup (2:1 honey to warm water)
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters (optional, for depth)
  • Orange peel (for garnish)
  • 1 large ice cube

Instructions

  1. Add bourbon, honey syrup, and bitters to a mixing glass.
  2. Fill with ice and stir for 20-30 seconds until well-chilled.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube.
  4. Express the orange peel over the drink, releasing the oils.
  5. Drop the peel in or rest it on the rim.
  6. Take a breath. You've got this.

Bartender Tips

  • The honey matters: Make your own honey syrup—it's smoother than store-bought and you control the sweetness.
  • Don't skip the orange: The citrus oils brighten everything and make it smell incredible.
  • One large cube: Melts slower, keeps the drink cold without watering it down too fast.
  • Sip, don't shoot: This isn't a shot. It's a conversation companion. Take your time.
